Apply for a conference grant
Each year NASW offers a number of travel grants to help colleagues in need attend our ScienceWriters conference and other professional development opportunities. This year we are supporting needs for both virtual and in-person attendees. In addition, our colleagues and friends at the Council for Advancement of Science Writing are offering travel grants.
Open through September 13 (deadline extended)
Memphis-area students may apply for a St. Jude attendance grant through September 13. This grant covers conference registration and NASW student membership. Apply through the CASW submission portal.
Applications for the following grants closed on August 30. Awardees will be notified during the week of September 12.
Are you in need of financial support to participate in ScienceWriters2022 either in person or virtually? Apply for a grant of up to $1,200 to increase bandwidth, offset travel costs, purchase a headset or other equipment, and/or assist with caregiving costs (including, but not limited to, childcare and elder care). Awardees will also receive complimentary meeting registration. As part of the grant, awardees will be asked to submit a short write-up of a conference session, take event photos, or help live tweet a special #SciWri22 community event with MLK50: Justice Through Journalism, a Memphis nonprofit newsroom.
Apply here no later than August 30. If sufficient funds remain, we will continue to accept applications on a rolling basis after August 30. These grants will reimburse up to $1,200 in travel expenses for in-person attendees and up to $350 in other expenses for virtual attendees. Awardees will also receive complimentary meeting registration. You may apply before you have made a final decision about in-person vs. virtual attendance. International applicants are welcomed; those applying for travel assistance should already have permission to travel to the US (e.g. an existing visa). You do not need to be a member to apply. Awardees who are eligible for student or regular membership will receive a complimentary membership. Application deadline: Tuesday, August 30, 2022
These NASW fellowships are supported by the Authors Coalition of America funds and members of the National Association of Science Writers via the Community Fund. To support a colleague’s virtual or in-person attendance, please consider contributing to the Community Fund.
